Metastatic Large Cell Neuroendocrine Carcinoma of the Lung Mimicking a Merkel Cell Carcinoma
نویسندگان
چکیده
of the lung is a newly recognized clinicopathologic entity and defined as a poorly differentiated and high-grade neuroendocrine tumor that stands morphologically and biologically between atypicall carcinoid and small cell lung carcinomal. Histopathologically, most LCNECs revealed a marked decrease in or a loss of organoid architecture and could be mistaken for poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma or squamous cell carcinoma2,3. Cutaneous metastasis of pulmonary cancer is common as shown in its rate up to 1.5 to 2.6% and may be presented as a first sign of cancer4, 5. Furthermore, the neuroendocrine features of cutaneous metastasis of LCNEC of the lung may be similar to Merkel cell carcinoma and other neuroendocrine carcinomas and therefore, it should be differentiated from them by histological and immunohistochemical studies. Thus, we herein report a case of cutaneous metastasis of LCNEC of the lung, previously misdiagnosed as squamous cell carcinoma.

Dispersed neuroendocrine system (D.N.S) consists of a wide variety of cells that are present in the central and peripheral nervous system and in many classic endocrine organs and different tissues such as respiratory and gastrointestinal tracts, skin, prostate, breast and also their neoplasm show neuroendocrine differentiation by electron microscopy, immunohistochemistry or biochemical techniqu...
متن کاملSquamous cell carcinoma of lung with unusual site of metastasis
Background: Lung cancer ranks among the most common and most lethal malignancies worldwide. Once vascular or lymphatic invasions occur, metastatic dissemination to distant sites is common. Bone, liver, adrenals, and brain are the most frequent sites of the distant disease. In this study we present a case of squamous cell carcinoma of lung with metastasis of the left knee bursa.Case presentation...
متن کاملMetastatic Renal cell Carcinoma Presenting as a clear-cell Tumor in Tongue: A Case Report
Introduction: Metastatic lesions of the oral cavity are extremely rare, accounting for approximately 1% of all malignant oral tumors. The most common primary sources of metastatic tumors in the oral region are, from the most to the least common, the breast, lung, kidney, bone, and colon. Renal cell carcinoma accounts for nearly 3% of all adult malignancies. It usually metastasizes to the lungs,...
متن کاملLarge cell neuroendocrine carcinoma of the kidney with cardiac metastasis: a case report
BACKGROUND Primary large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma of the kidney is a rare and generally very aggressive disease. We present a case of a patient with primary large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma of the kidney with cardiac metastasis. CASE PRESENTATION A 59-year-old Japanese man presented to his previous physician with hematuria. Computed tomography revealed masses in the heart and right ki...
متن کاملLarge Cell Neuroendocrine Carcinoma of the Rectum Presenting with Extensive Metastatic Disease
Introduction. Rectal large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma (LCNEC) is a poorly differentiated neoplasm that is very rare and belongs within the poorest prognostic subgroup among primary colorectal neoplasms. Here, we describe a case of LCNEC of the rectum, which highlights the aggressive clinical course and poor prognosis associated with this disease. Case Presentation. We report a case of a 63-y...
